Trauma Series 3: Light Stream
The Light Stream Technique, developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro, is a visualisation method that promotes relaxation and alleviates discomfort.
How to Practice the Light Stream Technique
Preparation: Sit or lie down comfortably. Close your eyes and take slow, deep breaths.
Visualize the Light: Imagine a stream of warm, healing light above you.
Scanning: Picture the light entering through the top of your head and traveling downward. As it moves, it brings warmth and relaxation to each part of your body.
Focus on Discomfort: When the light reaches an area of tension or discomfort, imagine it pausing there, dissolving any negative sensations.
Completion: Continue until the light exits through your feet, taking all residual discomfort with it.
Why It’s Effective This technique uses imagery to promote relaxation, offering relief from physical and emotional stress. It’s especially beneficial for those experiencing somatic symptoms of anxiety.
